About Parent Workshop

WHAT? Parent Workshops

Workshop will bring together parents and professionals who work with families for educational and networking opportunities. Sessions will provide parents the opportunity to meet other parents and caregivers, share concerns about children and family life and learn more about children and positive parenting. Information and current research will be shared along with practical application strategies that parents of color can utilize immediately. Workshop facilitators will focus on enhancing parenting practices, behaviors as well as self-care strategies in an interactive and engaging manner. Each workshop will be 2 hours in length. These parenting workshops are educational, supportive, and customized to the needs of participants.

WHO? Consultant will do the following:

• Facilitate and conduct workshop
• Facilitate and conduct follow up workshop session to determine progress and successes
• Provide a handout to parents to utilize at home
• Conduct parent outreach before each session via flyer, phone or email

School will need to do the following:

• Designate workshop meeting space preferably with tables and chairs
• Designate restrooms for participant use
• Advertise event to their school, and community
• Secure and compensate custodial staff and administrative designee
• Provide snacks, and drinks, for participants
• Photocopy workshop handouts

WHY?

Attending parent workshops is one of the most effective ways of helping both experienced and inexperienced parents learn how to effectively parent. During these sessions, parents are afforded the opportunity to share with other parents why it is important to be sensitive to their child’s social, emotional and intellectual developmental needs. Also, information provided in these workshops will enhance parents’ mental health, self-esteem, parenting confidence, and competencies. Lastly, they will help parents as they develop a blueprint on how to raise happy, healthy, intellectual, and content children. Happy Child leads to a Happy Parent!

Workshop Descriptions:

Getting your child scholarship ready: This workshop session will provide parents with guidance on how to help get their children ready to compete and win scholarship monies. Facilitator worked with the United Negro College Fund and helped to distribute Gates Millennium Scholarship dollars for over ten years. Come learn what scholarship committees look for in reading student applications, essays and reviewing their experiences. Strategies will be provided that will help you pay for college with scholarship dollars.

College and career readiness-Elementary: This workshop session will provide parents with guidance as their children progress through the education system, with a focus on getting them college and career ready. Parents will be provided with practical tools and strategies from an educator who has over 40 years of experience.

College and career readiness-Middle School: This workshop session will provide parents with guidance as their children progresses through the education system, with a focus on getting them college and career ready. Parents will be provided with practical tools and strategies from an educator who has over 40 years of experience.

Coaching your child to success from ages 6 to 16: This workshop session provides parents with strategies and information that will equip them to know what to do, what to expect and how to prepare as their child grows and matures. If you want your child to grow up to be a responsible adult who is confident and capable, come learn what you need to know and do as well as get concrete ideas to be a successful parent for every age and stage from toddlers to teens. Do you know how they will mature, emotionally, socially and physically during their growth cycle? If you do not, this workshop will help you know how to parent no matter what the age.

Helping your child deal with anxiety, stress and trauma: This workshop session will assist parents to understand how to help their children manage and regulate their stress and anxiety so that they improve their wellbeing, mental and physical health as well as moods/dispositions. Strong emotions, especially negative ones, cannot be brushed aside or “fixed” by someone else, come learn how to teach your child coping skills and strategies. Learn some specific ways to lovingly guide your children in a respectful way to encourage them to deal with negative emotions in a positive and productive manner. (Happy Child-Happy Parent)

Empowering your child to greatness: This workshop session will focus on positive parenting strategies and emphasize how and why parents should show children love, warmth and kindness. Parents will learn how to help their children thrive and to be their best self through positive messaging. Simple strategies will be shared that will raise your child’s self-esteem, lead to an empowered and happier child and one that will be more confident of their abilities and hence TRY Harder.

Refresh, reset, restart-How to keep yourself charged up so that you can effectively parent: This workshop session will provide parents with self-care strategies to refresh, reset and restart themselves in order to improve the wellbeing of their children. Learn how to deal with your stress, rejuvenate yourself, and replenish your relationship with your child and others. Find the much-needed balance necessary to be effective at both work and/or home.

Financial literacy for parents: This workshop session will help parents understand and teach their children the skills and knowledge that will allow them to make informed and prosperous decisions now and in the future about finances. Come learn about money management, budgeting, saving, debt, investing, giving and how to lay a foundation so that your child will make smart decisions.
